Robots are also categorized under what type of robot they are. Examples of types of robots are:

Adaptive / Intelligent robot - A robot that can alter its responses according to changes in the environment and can be programmed to make choices or actions based from input sensors.

Non-adaptive / dumb robot - A robot that cannot alter it's responses according to changes in the environment and cannot be programmed to make choices based on input sensors.

Degrees of Freedom - A degrees of freedom robot, is a robot that has a specific mode in which it is able to move around. It is also the dimensions a robot can move in.
